In short, how many years can I realistically expect my Macbook Air to last? It is a 2017 model, well cared for, and in good condition. I ask this as I am considering the new M2 MBA, but after careful consideration, there is not really any great benefit to me in an upgrade. My current MBA does everything I need.

The MacBook Air was updated somewhat recently (if I remember correctly), but it is still an older design. Plus, the newer MacBook Pro has a MUCH better display, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it does last you longer than a MacBook Air (even if Apple supports them equally with software updates) simply because it’s a recently-redesigned

I recommend a different approach. Charge your laptop to 100%, unplug it, fire up a movie in VLC, loop the movie so it plays forever, and use a stopwatch to see how long it takes your battery to drain.
