It's a good slice of life, showing the characters in their downtime. Some people aren't happy with the lack of actions, but personally I love the choice, because it allows us to see a different side of the character's life that aren't shown in the games, especially Dante. It's "alright" imo.

Devil May Cry was a fascinating game that could simply never have existed for a lot of reasons, and only really does because the director saw the potential in what was supposed to be Resident Evil 4. The game was a success, but development on a sequel started before that by a less experienced team.
